BIBLE

When you get something new, you often receive an instruction manual. With your new life in Christ, you need God’s instruction manual, the Bible. God communicates to you through his Word.

TALK TO GOD: “Dear God, thank you for showing me what you’re like through your Word. Help me to read it, study it, and obey it. Amen.”

INVESTIGATE GOD’S WORD: Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17 (Memorize verse 16)

MAKE IT PRACTICAL:

  • I WONDER – Read John 20:31

Have there been times you thought about reading the Bible but unsure where to start?

Did you start reading the Bible and become angry or confused about what you just read?

I know you’re screaming on the inside where do you start? Or saying this Bible makes no scene!

Unfortunately, at no place in the Bible does it say, “Start Here”, we need help.  Consider these suggestions:

Check out the Gospels to get to know Jesus.  John tells us that he wrote his book “so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name” (John 20:31).

Next, start reading through some of the letters that Paul, Peter, and John wrote. (Paul wrote most of the letters in the New Testament.) Try Proverbs next. You can read one chapter a day and finish the book in a month. After this read Genesis, Exodus, Daniel, and Jonah. They offer stories of real people whose problems aren’t all that different from yours. Many people read through the Bible in a year.  By reading the whole Bible, you can see how God’s plan came about over the centuries.

PLEASE NOTE: Don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to read so much at one time to where you get burnt out & don’t spend all your time reading things about the Bible that you don’t actually read the “Bible”!

(I started in the book of Acts because I wanted to know where in the Bible it said to be a Christian, then I moved to Romans, Luke, John, and it’s an incredible spiritual awakening and my desire for him has grown every day!)

The more you read the more the Bible it will actually start to make a scene to you. Parts of the Bible you read in the past will have a whole new meaning once you have become faithful in your daily studies.

  • KEEP IT REAL – Read Isaiah 41:10

Have you recently moved to a new area, and you don’t know anyone?

Do you miss everyone you left even the ones who mistreated you?

Is the feeling of loneliness becoming overwhelming or intolerable?

Are you having second thoughts about your recent move?

There is a reason for everything, and it’s not always going to be clear as to why.  But God will let you know in his time, not yours.  God’s timing, especially his delays, may make us think he plans on ignoring us or that he won’t answer the way we want. But he will meet all of your needs (see Philippians 4:19, Galatians 4:4, Psalms 40:1)

Use this time to grow closer to God, you need God’s help and guidance to make it wherever you go in life. Don’t you know he cleared your busy schedule, there are no more excuses! Your day planner is free for him now.

Now as you start to go out, and exploring start appreciating your new surroundings. As you start to make new positive friends in your life for God, remember that God is with you, he will strengthen you, and he has already won the victory for you.

(Memorize Isaiah 41:10 and Philippians 4:13).  If you ever feel unnoticed and afraid to talk with someone repeat those verses to yourself. Let these two verses become a lifeline for you! Remember this; there are no mistakes with God, everything is for a reason, and you will never be alone.

EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS (Journal Time): How can you put these ideas presented here into action in your own life? Commit yourself to spend five minutes a day reading the Bible. As a result of something you read, write down in your journal something you will do. Ask God to help you!
